Marionette ـ Written by : Hossam El-Okdah ـ Translated by : Lena Abdelhamid

Marionette
Have you ever seen a wooden puppet?
She is one.
She is coming and going.
Preforming on a stage for me.
Telling me tales.
She was walking on the stage.
There was no space.
She can not be upset or happy.
But when will she?
The five strings are controlling her
But do not be deceived
If you see her, you will not be happy.
Inside her are things
But she still dances and sings,
About him and me.
And behind her are thousands of singers
singing in the most beautiful languages
She speaks but its not her voice
Not her laugh..
But her lips are moving to the voice behind her.
The puppet is hurt, but doesn't say
When will she ever learn from the past?
No matter how many times the hands change
The puppet remains the same.
They choose every thing for her
Even her moves.
And everyone is watching or joking
They examined the stitching of her fabric
And good things will not be said.
Because it is useless.
If good things were said; no one would notice.
But the show still goes on.
